Abstract

The second quarter has traditionally been an off-season for desktop PC shipment but Taiwanese desktop PC shipment in the second quarter of 2010 lived up to expectations, growing 2.1% compared to the first quarter of 2010. This was attributed to the fact that in April, brand-name vendors, who were optimistic about desktop PC sales in the second and third quarters of 2010, decided to make advance purchases in April and/or May. Even though sales in April and May were not as strong as expected and some brand-name vendors faced relatively high inventory levels, they did not scale down shipment volume provided by contract manufacturers due to several factors.
